Maybe you've already noticed that the vst~ object of Max has a few weaknesses. For example it's challenging to work with non-floating plugin windows while the hosting application is also operated at the same screen space. Connect this external with a vst~ object and enjoy floating plugin windows.
I approached it from a MaxforLive perspective to get us closer to a proper plug-in slot in a device, but it is just as useful in a pure Max context.
